Stefan Gelcich is a marine biologist and studies social-ecological dimensions of marine fisheries management and environmental conservation. He is a researcher with the Laboratorio Internacional en Cambio Global (LINCGLOBAL) and the Ecology Department of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile working on threats and impacts of global drivers on ecosystem services. He also studies the interplay between ecological and governance determinants in implementing and effectively managing marine protected areas. Stefans work also focuses on links between fisheries management, biodiversity conservation, and environmental attitudes of stakeholders. Stefan has wide experience in teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate level, consultancy work in Chile and overseas for Government and Industry and managing funds for nature conservation. He received his BSc from the Universidad Católica del Norte, his MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and his PhD from University of Wales, Bangor.
