Dr. Björn Rost

My fields of expertise are in phytoplankton ecophysiology, biological oceanography and biogeochemistry, which I gained since graduation at the University of Hamburg in 1999 (Biology: Major Hydrobiology). After obtaining my PhD at the University of Bremen in 2003 (Thesis: Inorganic carbon acquisition and isotope fractionation of the coccolithophore Emiliania huxleyi), I continued to work on phytoplankton and their role in elemental cycling as a postdoc in the section Marine Biogeochemistry of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). During this time, I initiated several international collaborations, which involved joint cruises and mutual visits as guest scientists (e.g. with University of Vancouver, University of Sydney). Since 2008, I am leading an ERC-funded research group at the AWI (PhytoChange: New approaches to assess the responses of phytoplankton to Global Change), which currently consist of 10 members . <br /> &nbsp;
