PD Dr. Doris Abele

Doris Abele, marine animal physiologist, biochemist and marine ecologist with degrees from Düsseldorf University (Diploma in Biology 1984) and Kiel University (Doctoral Degree in Marine Biology and Biochemistry, 1988). Specialized in oxygen radical research since beginning of her postdoctoral studies at the University of Bremen in 1989. Presently employed at Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany and leading a research group for “Stress Physiology and Aging in Marine Invertebrates” and coordinates the WP Evolutionary Ecology (PACES). Abele led 9 expeditions to the Dallmann laboratory (Carlini station, King George Island, Antarctica) and coordinates the international ESF programme IMCOAST (Impact of Climate Change on Antarctic Coastal Systems: 2010-2016). Has 90 peer reviewed publications and is editor of the textbook “Oxidative Stress in Aquatic Ecosystems” Blackwell-Wiley, 2012.
