M. Chami is a professor (permanent position) in physics who teaches at the university of Paris. His research interests are the radiative transfer modelling, remote sensing of ocean colour and the characterization of optical properties of marine particles in turbid media. He focuses most of his research activity on the exploitation of the polarization state of light to better determine the optical properties of biogenic and inorganic particles present in the ocean. He collaborated with different interdisciplinary groups (biology and artificial intelligence). He performed a great number of oceanographic field experiments (9 months at sea in total) to collect optical measurements. He leads a project dealing with the development of an optical instrument devoted to the measurement of the directional properties of the particles in the ocean. He was awarded in 2010 to become a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (which depends on French ministry of research).
