Short Description
Summary Role
I graduated as Doctor in Biological Oceanology at the University of Paris VI in 1985. From 1986-1988 I was associated assistant at the University of Rouen. My work as immunohistologist concerned the neuroendocrinology of the frog brain. Since 1988 I am assistant professor at the University Paris VI. My research concerns the ecophysiological adaptations of invertebrates to extreme habitats, such as the intertidal, but also the deep-sea hydrothermal vents and the cold seeps. For the latter purpose I have been on six deep-sea cruises exploring vents, seeps and mud volcanoes. My research interest is focussed on the breathing capacities of annelids, crustaceans and molluscs to cope with hypoxic events, both at the level of their respiratory organs and their respiratory pigments. Thus I analyse their gills (cells and biometry), and their hemoglobins or hemocyanins molecular structure, and compare their oxygen-binding properties in the range of the conditions in their habitats.
