Center for Marine Conservation & Estación Costera de Investigaciones Marinas. Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Short Description

The CCM is expected to produce scientific knowledge to improve the effectiveness of marine conservation plans in Chile, to attain high levels of coastal ecosystem health and to maximize ecosystem services in one of the most productive ecosystems on earth. The unique mosaic makeup of the Chilean coast, comprised of a mixture of open access areas and marine protected areas, which ranges from areas partially protected by syndicates of fishers and no-take areas, combined with the complex heterogenic nature of coastal processes, offers us an unmatched opportunity to generate cutting-edge scientific information and develop compatible exploitation and conservation strategies.
The CCM mission extends beyond the generation of scientific knowledge to include as priorities interdisciplinary scientific training and the transfer of scientific knowledge to our society and policymakers.
