Klaipeda University is the structurally full-rate university where a perspective industrial and commercial potential is rallied, where marine complex is developed and distinctive cultural traditions are cherished. It was established for realization of scientific researches and studies in marine topics. It develops as an autonomous and modern scientific and study centre.
Rapidly growing University today cover 7 faculties (Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Humanities, Marine Engineering, Arts, Pedagogy, Social sciences, Health sciences), 2 study institutes (Navigation and Continuing studies), 3 scientific research institutes (Baltic Coastal Research and Planning, Baltic Region History and Archaeology, Mechatronics) as scientific research and study centers, library with about 0,5 million books of different topics, Botanical gardens, publishing office and Career centre. Unity of science and studies, their qualitative integration into national and European scientific space remains to be the major principle of its activity. Klaipeda University is a member of academic network, involving association of European universities and Baltic region universities.
Mission of the University is universal and exceptional in satisfaction of national demands for high quality professionals in fundamental and applied researches. It undertakes study programmes, corresponding to international requirements and standards. Researchers, poets, writers, Parliament and government members, managers of big companies, good engineers, teachers and actors are among graduates of Klaipeda University.
Presently developed Marine valley will undoubtedly contribute to integration of science and studies. It will be provided with modern scientific research laboratories, a ship for oceanographic researches and practical training of students. Necessity to establish and develop it is stimulated by rapid development of marine trade and increasing demand for marine researches, related to alteration of marine and coastal geo-systems, rational employment of natural resources, preservation of natural and cultural values.
The University enjoys scientific and academic partnership with 28 European and North American universities. It is involved in many international funds and programmes.
Klaipeda university will be a full partner of the EMBC+ Masters project. Together with Ghent University, as the coordinating University, and other partners: the Universities of Bremen, Algarve, Klaipeda and Paris 6 will ensure the proper running of the programme, participating in all activities of selection and evaluation of students and in the Master committees required. The University will offer regular courses, Master Theses, language courses and internship possibilities. Help and support will be provided to students for visa arrangements, housing and bureaucratic and administrative issues.
